I want to research and illustrate the concept of peak oil. The world has invested heavily into fossil fuels; in fact, it has defined the 20th century. Now, geologists are proving that the world has reached the peak of oil production, and the majority of the global population has not taken steps towards alleviating the consequences of a potential collapse. Through my project, I was to expose a fundamental flaw of America; namely an enormous lack of foresight and ignorance. I want my project to be a mixed-media, layered composition. The base layer will be newspaper articles related to abnormal weather patters, controversies over oil, military action in the middle east, the BP oil spill in the gulf, or any other piece of news related to oil (which could indirectly be almost anything, but I'll ensure direct relations. I want pictures as well as newspaper articles to be in the background. I want quotes dealing with peak oil to be embedded in the newspaper, but large font and more obvious. (The more dramatic the message, the larger the font). The focal point will be a hand holding a nozzle at a gas station (something almost every American can commiserate with), with only a drop coming out. In the background will be th epumping machine with, instead of gallons and price, the words, "Now What".
